Dates set for Lairg and Raasay Community Council elections

The elections to form Community Councils in Lairg and Raasay will be held early next year.

Postal ballot papers will be sent to eligible voters in each Community Council area on Tuesday 17 January 2012 and should be returned by no later than 4 pm on Thursday 2 February. Votes will be counted locally on Friday 3 February.

The election is being held because Lairg and Raasay Community Councils attracted more nominations than their maximum membership following a second round of elections.

A total of 151 out of 156 Highland Community Councils are now operating.

The only three which will remain in abeyance are Caol, Inverness Central and Laggan, where there is an active Community Association in operation.
