Lochaber primary schools cross country championships 2011

Caol Primary School made it four in a row by taking the team event title in this year’s Lochaber Primary Schools Cross Country Championships for the fourth year running.

The event took place at Nevis Range on 22 February.  Sixteen schools, including those from as far as Mallaig and Lochaline competed in the event, with each school entering a team of 3 boys and 3 girls.

In the girls’ event, Caol almost made a clean sweep of the medals with Abbie Blackhall coming first, and twin sister Robyn Blackhall second, finishing in 10.50 and 11 minutes respectively.  Team mate Kira MacDonald was just pipped into fourth place by Chloe MacDonald from Invergarry.

Having finished second last year, Ewen MacLean from Banavie Primary took this year’s title in a time of 10:09.  Second equal, and just four seconds behind, were Stephen Dent from St Brides and Ian MacIntyre from Banavie.  Fourth place went to Ruaridh Shaw.

In the team event, calculated from the finishing places of the best two girls and two boys from each school, first place went to Caol, second to Banavie, and third equal were Upper Achintore and Inverlochy.

Thanks go to Samuel and Partners for their ongoing support, to the Primary PE and Active Schools staff for organising and running the event and to the many teachers and school staff who help train the teams and helped on the day.  Special thanks to the Environmental Conservation SQV Level 2 team from the West Highland College, who marked out the course and marshalled at the event
