Motorists urged to go slow at Portree High School

Part time 20mph speed limits will be introduced at another school in Skye and Lochalsh area on Monday 4th September, 2006.

Motorists are being warned that part time 20mph speed restrictions will be introduced at Portree High School for children’s safety.

This addition brings the total number of schools benefiting from new speed limits in the Skye and Lochalsh area to 7 and in Highland to 73 at present.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

The new part time 20mph speed limit operate at Portree High School on school days Mondays – Fridays during school term times from: 08:30 to 09:00; 12:50 to 13:45; and 15:30 to 15:45.

The other schools in Skye and Lochalsh Area with 20mph speed restrictions are: Auchtertyre, Kyle, Kyleakin, Portree, Plockton, and Uig Primaries.
