Inverness Town House refurbishment delayed

The Highland Council has responded to the wishes of local business community by delaying a start to essential works at the Town House, Inverness, until after the Barclays Scottish Open being held at Castle Stuart, near Inverness.

Work on the refurbishment of three west facing stain glass windows in the Town Hall,  which overlook Castle Wynd, was due to begin on Monday (27 June) and continue for 12 weeks.

The work will now begin after the golf championship to ensure the civic building is looking at its best when thousands of visitors come to the city.

The work involves erecting a full height scaffold on Castle Wynd to remove the three windows to an off-site studio where a specialist stain glass window restorer will fully refurbish the windows. During this time, the contractor will be working on repairing and replacing damaged and missing stone work. The stone work will also be undertaken by a specialised stonemason.

David Haas, City Manager, said: “We readily accepted the wishes of the business community and have immediately responding by delaying the start to this contract.”
