First Eat Safe Awards for Sutherland Businesses

Two hotels in Sutherland, The Overscaig Hotel and The Inver Lodge Hotel are the first in the area to have been awarded an Eat Safe Award after demonstrating that their standards of hygiene and food safety are well above that required by legislation.

The Eat Safe scheme is run in conjunction with the Food Standards Agency and Local Authorities throughout Scotland and aims to promote excellence in food hygiene and food safety management.  Eligible food businesses are independently assessed during routine unannounced food hygiene inspections carried out by the local Environmental Health Department. Those businesses which meet the high standards required for the award are invited to participate.

Local Councillor Ian Ross joined The Highland Council’s Food Safety Officer, Sandy Fraser to present the awards. After congratulating the businesses he said: “These awards recognise all the hard work of everyone involved with the hotels and shows a high commitment to food safety and training within their businesses.  I hope this will encourage other businesses in the area to come forward with a view to gaining the award.”
