Councillor Hamish Fraser, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Gaelic Committee, congratulated Lewis (Lodaidh) Mackinnon, Executive Director of Gaelic Affairs, Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage in the Province of Nova Scotia, as he was awarded and crowned the Mod Bard ‘ Crùnadh a’ Bhàrd’.

Councillor Fraser said:  “It is a delight that this honour has been bestowed on Lodaidh, it is well deserved as he is both a talented bard, and an excellent musician.”

“The council has close links with the office of Gaelic Affairs in the Province as there is currently a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both organisations.”

Council members and officials meet the Executive Director to discuss refreshing the MOU, in line with the new technologies and opportunities that these provide.

Lodaidh MacKinnon said:  "Nova Scotia's relationship with The Highland Council is truly valued.  It is heart-warming to receive this personal recognition from the council.  I look forward to revisiting the MOU Agreement and continuing to develop ways to strengthen the ties between our two regions".
