A positive report by inspectors for Stoer School and Nursery

In an HMIe report on Stoer Primary School the following key strengths were identified:

In the report the Inspectors stated: “The children are learning well and they are very proud of their school and community. Across the school, children are making good progress in English language and mathematics, progressing well in literacy, numeracy, and health and wellbeing.”

They added: “As a result of real-life learning contexts, for example through running their own snack bar, pupils’ understanding of money, number and time is particularly strong and that across the school and nursery, children experience a broad and stimulating curriculum which includes many opportunities for a wide range of experiences including, for example, two whole school annual residential trips.”

They observed that ”The transition programme which runs throughout the P7 year helps children make a confident start at Ullapool High School.”

The inspectors concluded that the Head Teacher and staff were very aware of the strengths of the school and aspects which require further improvement.

Commenting on the report Angela Macleod, Head Teacher, said: “Everyone at the school is delighted with the report. It reflects the enthusiasm of the pupils and the commitment of the staff team at Stoer Primary. The report confirms that the Parent Council and the wider community contribute greatly to the life of the school. Together we will continue to deliver and improve our current practice.”

Chairperson of Stoer Parent Council, Claire Belshaw, said:  “This excellent report is the result of the combined effort of all who teach and work at the school and nursery, including visiting teachers, lunch ladies, the cleaner and Highland Council rangers. The Head Teacher and all involved at the school are to be congratulated and thanked for all their hard work."
