Nairn pupil celebrates Digital Story win

Issued by Highlands and Islands Enterprise

16 year old Alison Forbes from Nairn Academy is celebrating winning an Apple iPad after sharing her international broadband story in a bid to help encourage others to get online.

The fifth year pupil entered the competition at a Nairn Digital showcase event which was held in August this year.  Organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Business Gateway as part of their IT Engagement Programme, the event offered advice to businesses and local residents to take advantage of the introduction of next generation broadband in the area.

Competition entrants were asked to describe how they use digital technology in a social or business setting. For her winning entry, Alison described how online video calling via Skype allows her to stay in touch with family in Canada, including speaking to her five year old cousin on his first day of school.

The top prize was an Apple iPad 2 - with a case donated by Stormfront in Inverness. Three other pupils were also presented with selection boxes at the ceremony, which was held at the school on Tuesday (18 December).
