June 4 chosen as Highland day of celebration for Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

Following consultation with trade unions, The Highland Council has agreed that Monday 4 June will be the day staff are granted an additional annual leave day to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Council will now contact the Scottish Government to request closure of schools on this day.  Schools will be notified of arrangements once confirmation is received from the Scottish Government.

The decision to grant the workforce an additional leave day was taken by the Resources Committee on 1 December last year with the date – either Monday 4 June or Tuesday 5 June – to be determined following discussions with trade unions. These have now been held and the Monday chosen.
