Animal Olympic events

The Highland Council Countryside Rangers are running family friendly events with a distinctively Olympic theme in Nairn, Farr and Abriachan over the next few weeks.

Cara Donald, Highland Council Seasonal Countryside Ranger said, “As it is an Olympic year we have planned our own nature Olympic events to give families the chance to find out more about inspiring animal athletes.  Out on Nairn beach families can enjoy marine and coastal themed activities while the other two events in Farr and Abriachan will feature woodland based activities.”

The first of these special Nature Olympics will take place on Nairn Beach next Wednesday (1st August).  Families are invited to come along to find who gets the gold in the marine animal kingdom.  With an afternoon of fun environmental activities for all the family planned, this is a great chance to find out which creatures are the fastest, furthest and the fittest and to test yourself to out compete some of nature’s best athletes.

The Nairn beach event runs from 2pm – 3.30pm and will be repeated on Wednesday 8th August. The meeting point is Nairn Central Beach car park.

On Thursday 9 August woodland rather than marine animals will be under the sporting spotlight at Farr, south of Inverness.  The meeting point is the School Wood car park at 2.00pm.

The final Olympic themed event will take place on Monday 13th August in Abriachan Forest, near Inverness from 2.00pm – 3.30pm.

The cost for all events is £3 for adults, £2 concessions and all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
