New schools ready when pupils return after summer break

Highland schools break up at lunch time on Friday (29 June) for the summer holidays.  Primary Schools return on Tuesday 14 August. Secondary schools return on Wednesday 15 August as teachers have an extra in-service training day for Curriculum for Excellence.

Primary school pupils at Aviemore will return after their break to a new community school that is being handed over Graham Construction to The Highland Council on 9 July.    MacGregor Construction Highland Ltd have completed the £3 million new primary school at Lochaline, which incorporates the local fire station and it will be fully operational when pupils return in August.

A £3 milion extension to Plockton High School, built by Mansell Construction Services, will also be fully operational when pupils begin the new school session, while new modular classroom accommodation has been provided at Holm and Lochardil primary schools in Inverness and Aldourie Primary School has undergone a major upgrade.

At Conon Bridge, Barr Construction are on schedule to open the new Ben Wyvis Primary School following the October holidays. This will see the merger of Conon Bridge and Maryburgh primary schools.
