Council deals with weather impact in the Highlands

Highland Council’s Transport, Environmental and Community Services (TECs) staff are currently dealing with weather-related incidents in Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey and Lochaber.

TEC Services staff have cleared one fallen tree on the B970 at Insh and three trees on Carr Road at Carrbridge. Adequate resources are currently available to deal with flooding or tree issues throughout the rest of the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey area.

TECs staff in Lochaber are also dealing with fallen trees. On the A861 west of Strontian a tree has been cleared and the road is open. On the A861 one mile South of Ardgour the road is open while staff are awaiting machinery to remove the rest of a tree which is on steep banking. At Loch Arkaig a tree has been removed and the road is open.

On the B863 three miles north of Kinlochleven, the road is open to cars only, while a contractor is working to clear the road. On Lochyside near Caol a footway blocked by a fallen tree is now open. In Fort William at Fassifern Loop, Scottish Woodland is clearing the road; Highbridge Road is closed awaiting a contractor; and a blocked footpath on Alma Road is being assessed by council staff.

As a precaution, the Council has also closed Viewfield Road in Nairn due to potentially dangerous overhanging tree branches

Supplies of sandbags are ready for flooding incidents with staff available to respond to emergencies.
