Cromarty Primary held their second Eco Day of the session with a variety of events to raise their awareness of living more sustainably.

All pupils of the school took part in three activities – a beach clean, whale and dolphin workshops and outdoor storytelling sessions.

The Beach Clean was carried out through the Keep Scotland Tidy initiative with help from parents and community volunteers. The litter the pupils found ranged from an old metal bedstead to fisherman’s ropes and empty bottles.

Also during the Eco day volunteers from the Whale and Dolphin Society ran a series of workshops for the pupils. The Pupil Council were able to hand over a cheque for £65 to the society which they had raised by organising Dress Down Days each month.

The third activity was led by environmental story teller, Creeping Toad who helped pupils while on the beach weave stories from stones and shells and the weather.

Primary 5 pupil Maisie Graham said:  “The best part was his story about a girl and seagull in the water. She held the sea in her skirt and everytime she lifted in up the tide came in and out.” Jamie Kelly, also in Primary 5 said: “We found yellow stones on the beach and these became Golden Eggs in our story.”

Head Teacher Henri Shepherd said:  “The day was a real success. The pupils were engaging with the environment and learning how to care for it in a very creative and hands-on way.”
