Sporting success continues for Inshes Primary as they scoop Scottish Cross County Championship

The P6 boys team from Inshes Primary in Inverness are the new Scottish Cross Country Champions after taking top place at the national competition held on Saturday (20 April) in Kirkcaldy.

First to cross the line was Daniel Johnston who was closely followed by his team mates Robbie MacKenzie, Kai Bremner, Fergus McWilliam and Jack Seaton who all put in a great run, cheered on by their parents and families and coaches who had travelled to the championships to give their support.

The team’s success on Saturday is even more of an achievement as earlier this year the Primary 6 boys won the Scottish Schools Road Relay championships which were held in Grangemouth October 2012.

Acting Head teacher of the 300 pupil school, Mrs Kerrie Laird said: “Winning the double in the same year is a remarkable achievement for our school. I don’t think there will be many, if any, other schools who can claim to have done this before.  It reflects the emphasis we have in our school on promoting sport and physical education and the excellent tuition all pupils benefits from. The whole school is very proud and I’d like to congratulate the boys and thank everyone who has encouraged and supported them.”

PE Teacher Mrs Kathleen Brown added:  “This year alone the school has accumulated 12 Scottish Schools medals and last month the gymnastics team finished runners up at the Scottish School Gymnastics Championships held in Perth.  Credit goes to all the pupils and all the parents and volunteers who support them.  My special thanks go to Jane Melville who assists me with the gymnastics team and also former parent and athletics coach, Charlie Walton for working in partnership coaching and training the athletics and cross country teams year round.”
