Music school to host piping book launch

The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music and Plockton High School are delighted to be hosting the Highland launch of a significant new book on piping. “A Piper’s Tale” is full of fascinating and entertaining stories from some of the world’s greatest pipers.

Written by Fergus Muirhead, and published by Cargo, the book is a fascinating insight into what makes some of the world’s top players tick. Pipers from all over the world and from every genre of the music, including Roddy MacLeod, Willie McCallum, Gordon Walker, Ian Duncan, John Wilson, Murray Henderson, Jack Lee, Stuart Cassells, Finlay MacDonald, Dougie Pincock and Iain MacFadyen, discuss the issues of the day.

The pipers give revealing insights into why have they chosen to play the type of music they play, how they prepare for the next competition, concert or recital, where they have played and who they have met since they first picked up a set of pipes.

The launch will take place in the library of Plockton High School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday 5th September, and will feature author Fergus Muirhead in conversation with two of the featured pipers, Dougie Pincock and Iain MacFadyen. The event is open to the public, and all are welcome.

Fergus Muirhead is an experienced writer and broadcaster who has written on all aspects of money and consumer issues for a number of newspapers and magazines. Fergus has also travelled the world playing the bagpipes, initially with Molendinar in the late seventies and more recently with The Caulbums Ceilidh Band. He has acted as MC at concerts in every “Piping Live!” festival over the last 10 years and at the World Pipe Band Championships, and is in demand as a speaker at Burns Nights all over the world.

“A Piper's Tale” is now in shops following an official launch on Thursday 15th August in the National Piping Centre in Glasgow. It is also available from Amazon, on Kindle and as an EPub book on iTunes.
