Police remind drivers with abnormal loads to use designated laybys following delays on Kessock Bridge today.

Shortly after 09:00 hours today (20 February 2013) two Heavy Goods Vehicles carrying abnormal loads crossed the Kessock Bridge after failing to stop at the designated Abnormal Load Laybys.

This resulted in considerable delays on the bridge whilst traffic management systems were reinstated.

Members of the travelling public contacted Police to report the incident and the vehicles were subsequently stopped and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police would like to remind Haulage Contractors and their drivers, that any load with a width of 2.9metres or greater, must stop at the designated laybys on the approach to the Kessock Bridge and contact the mobile number shown, so they can be escorted safely across the bridge.

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter and for their patience during the delays that were caused.
