Major-General Sir Hector Macdonald Memorial Service

Members of The Highland Council’s Dingwall and Seaforth Ward, Councillors Graham MacKenzie, Alister Mackinnon, Angela MacLean and Margaret Paterson will be attending the Major-General Sir Hector Macdonald Memorial Service this weekend.

Organised by The Clan Donald Society of the Highlands and Islands, the service takes place at the National Memorial Tower, Mitchell Hill Cemetery, Dingwall on Saturday 2 March 2013 at 11am.

Now in its third year, the annual event gives thanks for the life and times of Major General Sir Hector Macdonald, KCB., DSO., ADC.,LL.D (1853-1903) and is supported by the Council’s Dingwall and Seaforth Ward discretionary fund.

Also attending from the Council will be Karen Cormack, Rector of Dingwall Academy with the school’s Head and Depute Head boys and girls.

Honoured Guests at the service will include:

A Pipe Band will lead The official Colour Party as it marches up Mitchell Hill where they will come to a halt in front of the monument. Members of the general public are invited to participate. An 'Order of Service' sheet will be handed out to all those present. There will be a short ecumenical service conducted at the Monument by The Reverend Andrew Graham during which there will be a salute to the Lord Lieutenant.

Sean Mackenzie of Strathpeffer Pipe Band will ascend the tower during the Service to play the lament 'Highland Cathedral'. A two minute silence will follow after which  wreaths will be laid headed by the Lord Lieutenant, Lord Macdonald, and then the military.

The service lasts approximately half an hour followed by a light lunch at the nearby National Hotel with a small charge of £6.75 per head.
