Highland Council supports British Transport Police warning to Kingussie train surfers

The Highland Council has confirmed today (Thursday 24 January) that it is supporting British Transport Police (BTP) in their efforts to warn young people that the practice of ‘train surfing’ is extremely dangerous.

Following the release of a photograph and information by BTP showing two young people on bicycles holding onto a train and being pulled along the platform at Kingussie train station, Kingussie High School has sent out a note to its 420 pupils advising them of the severe dangers and risk to life of participating in such an activity.

Acting Head Teacher Brian Ross said: “We are extremely concerned that this foolish and very dangerous activity is taking place in Kingussie and we are happy to work with British Transport Police in any way that we can to help get the message across that these young people are putting their lives at risk.

“We would welcome representatives from BTP to Kingussie High to speak to our pupils and would give them as much support as possible to get their message across.”
