Leisure centre customers in Invergordon and Nairn will soon benefit from expanded and improved facilities following approval of new projects at Invergordon Leisure and Nairn Leisure Centre.

The £1m project will see extensive remodelling and reconfiguration at each of the High Life Highland run sites with construction of additional facilities at Invergordon Leisure Centre.

Investment in Invergordon will be in the order of £850,000 and will include a new-build fitness suite and dance studio as well as a completely refurbished state-of-the-art gym.

Nairn Leisure’s existing gym space will more than double in size; extending into the current pool viewing area with the current viewing area being re-sited. All the external windows will be replaced, internal space will be remodelled and a variety of improvements to mechanical and electrical equipment will be completed.  The total value of the works is in the region of £200,000.

Linda Kirkland, Chair of the High Life Highland board said: “I welcome The Highland Council’s investment in these facilities; the improvements will not only benefit existing customers but also help to demonstrate the importance that High Life Highland and The Highland Council place on a fit and healthy Highlands.”

The Highland Council’s Adult and Children’s Services Committee Chairman Councillor Alasdair Christie welcomed the new projects, he said: “We are delighted to work with High Life Highland to help provide the capital funding which will give opportunities for people in Invergordon and Nairn to improve their health, fitness and general wellbeing.”

The project is due to commence in summer 2013 with works being phased to minimise disruption to customers.
