Bushcraft for beginners with the Countryside Rangers

Highland Council Countryside Rangers are inviting families to learn some essential bushcraft skills at two events this month. The events will allow attendees to take part in the ancient skill of bushcraft, as well as helping to occupy the school holidays.

On Thursday 18th July, families can try their hand at making a shelter or foraging for food. This event takes place between 2 and 4pm at Abriachan.

On Thursday 25th July, families can have a go at building dens and can learn some of the basics of shelter building. This event takes place between 2 and 4pm at Farr.

Katy Martin, Highland Council's Senior Countryside Ranger for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey said: “Both of these events offer a fun way to learn about what it takes to survive outdoors. The forests are rich sources of all the materials you need to survive.”

Places are limited on both events. People are therefore asked to book a place by calling Katy Martin 01463 255291. The meeting place will be given out on booking.

This event is most suitable for families with children. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The cost is £5 for adults and £3 for children/ concessions. Family tickets are also available.

The Countryside Rangers are running a total of 175 events across the Highlands during the summer. There is plenty to help occupy the school holidays! For more information, see http://www.highland.gov.uk/countrysiderangerevents.htm and for an events listing, see www.outdoorhighlands.co.uk/calendar.
