Apprentice Day for Highland Youth Voice Members.

The Highland Youth Voice Apprentice Day is running for the 8th time on Tuesday, 26th March.

Highland Youth Voice, the elected Youth Parliament for the Highlands, holds an annual ‘Apprentice Day’ on which members of Highland Youth Voice shadow Senior Managers and Elected Members across public sector services.

The aim of the Apprentice Day is to give young people a better understanding of the services provided for them and how services impact on and consult with young people. It also provides an opportunity for managers and elected members to gauge young people’s views of their service and for the service to become more aware of Highland Youth Voice. Representatives from High Life Highland, The Highland Council, NHS Highland, Northern Constabulary, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service, HM Prison Service and Job Centre Plus are getting involved this year.

Officials will meet their Apprentices at 10:00 am and be accompanied by the young people in a range of meetings and business activities in and around Inverness. The day will conclude with a more informal discussion reflecting on the day.

Convener of The Highland Council Jimmy Gray said: "Apprentice Day has become an established annual event and I’m delighted as it strengthens our links with young people as well as being very rewarding for everyone who takes part, adults as well as apprentices. Young people have a very positive contribution to make, especially when it comes to shaping future public services so I am looking forward to meeting and spending a fruitful day with my apprentice and I wish all the young people taking part a successful and productive day.”

Highland Youth Voice Vice-Chair, Cameron Cosgrove commented “I am really looking forward to my day shadowing Assistant Chief Executive Michelle Morris. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the wide ranging work that The Highland Council undertakes and in particular how it relates to young people. This will also be a great opportunity for me to offer a young person’s perspective on services.”

The day is organised by High Life Highland’s Youth Services team. For further information contact Audrey Anthoney, Senior Youth Development Officer (Participation), High Life Highland on 01463 663812 or email audrey.anthoney@highlifehighland.com
