Work starts soon on £11 million third phase of Lochaber High upgrade

The Highland Council’s major redevelopment of Lochaber High School continues with the award of a contract for the third phase to the Robertson Group. The total value of this phase is approximately £11 million which will bring the overall capital investment in the school since 2008 to more than £26 million.

The third phase will consist of a new extension and refurbishment of part of the existing building to provide the following:

Enabling works have been undertaken comprising the installation of a temporary kitchen and dining accommodation and also asbestos removal work.

Work is programmed to start on Monday 3 June 2013 and be completed by  April 2015.

Councillor Alasdair Christie, Chairman of the Adult and Children’s Service Committee, said: “This is a major commitment by the Council to ensure that the pupils and staff of  Lochaber High benefit from a 21st century learning environment.  Already the school community is enjoying the improvements completed in the early phases of the redevelopment.”

Jim Sutherland, Head Teacher, said, “We are all delighted that Phase 3 of our Lochaber 21 rebuilding and refurbishment programme is now underway. This stage of the work will really transform the way our school building works and will provide a learning environment that will be truly inspirational.”
