Council signs care home contract

Further to a procurement process for new care homes in Muir of Ord and Tain, The Highland Council has signed contracts with Parklands Highland Ltd for the provision of new homes for older people in these two communities.

Parklands will assume responsibility for the operation of the existing homes at Urray House (Muir of Ord) and Duthac House (Tain) in July, when staff will transfer to the employment of Parklands as part of TUPE arrangements.  The homes will remain in operation until the replacements are completed by the end of April 2014 to ensure continuity of service.

Construction work for the new builds that will replace these establishments will begin at the Tain and Muir of Ord sites in the next few weeks.

Meetings will take place soon with staff, residents and their families, to confirm the details.

Councillor Alasdair Christie, Chairman of the Adult and Children’s Services Committee, said: “This is really good news for the communities of Muir of Ord and Tain, who will hugely benefit from new care homes from April next year.”
