Tain Primary Gaelic Medium Open Day

A number of families visited Craighill Gaelic Medium Department last Friday to see bilingual education in action.

Teachers, Classroom Assistants and Officials spoke to parents about the benefits Gaelic Medium Education and bilingualism.

The parents were delighted with the Open Day as they could see at first hand the benefits of bilingualism, how Gaelic Medium Education is provided in the class room, and had the opportunity to speak to Officials from the Council’s Gaelic Team.

Useful support literature, internet resources, and information leaflets were available for parents at various information points.

Mr Duncan Mackay, Head Teacher of Craighill Primary said, “We have excellent Gaelic Medium Education provision in the school and I’m delighted with the quality of the Education and the benefits it brings to the pupils and the school. Many of the young people participate in cultural events in the area and the aim is to continue to grow bilingualism through Gaelic Medium education in the area.”

He continued: “The Open Day was successful, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, Officials and all who participated; our aim is to have a number of Open Days in the future."

Councillor Hamish Fraser, Chair of The Highland Council’s Gaelic Implementation Group said: “Events like this are important in providing a helpful link between parents and Gaelic education staff.  They also enable parents to get the information, encouragement and support they might need, to choose the bilingual education route through Gaelic.”
