Event aims to Get it Right for the Armed Forces.

A two day event  on 7/8 November at Smithton Church, Inverness is being organised to discuss issues affecting children, families and individuals who are serving, or have served in the Armed Forces.

“Getting it Right for the Armed Forces: 'Building Bridges' Event” is free to participants and has been has been funded by the Armed Forces Community Covenant Fund with support from the Safer Highland Partnership.

The event organisers also aim to produce a report with recommendations for statutory agencies, forces welfare services and third sector providers.

Highland Council Armed Forces and Veterans Champion, Councillor Carolyn Caddick who will be chairing the event said: “While we recognise the majority of forces children, families and individuals will not require specialist advice or services, there are others who would benefit from a range of additional support within the community. This event aims to highlight existing good practice and outline current priorities within the Highland area. Members of the Armed Forces, Veterans, Reservists and family members are particularly welcome to attend and contribute.”

The event includes inputs from the Army Welfare Service, Royal Caledonian Education Trust, Combat Stress, Poppy Scotland and the Highland Council among others.

This event is open to anyone with an interest in providing support for serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families. In particular, the event may be of interest to: Elected members; Statutory agencies - Health and Social Care, Education, Housing, Police; Scottish Prison Service; Employers and Employment services; Third sector providers; Forces welfare services; Forces charities; Serving and ex-service personnel; Churches and church organisations.
