Hilton pupils get on their bikes

Thirty pupils from Hilton Primary school recently celebrated national Bike Week by sitting their cycle test and passing with flying colours.

The primary seven pupils took part in the Scottish Cycle Training Scheme which was run by Highland Council’s Schools Roads Safety Team for the first time in many years.

Road Safety Team member and Active Schools Coordinator Suzy Hamilton said: “As a health promoting school we are always seeking to promote healthy travel choices. Our aim is to get more children, more active, more often. Cycling to and from school will get the children well on their way to reaching the recommended target of one hour of exercise per day.”

A further thirty primary six pupils will be given the opportunity to do their cycle training after the summer holidays. Hilton Primary School has applied to The Highland Council for a grant to install cycle storage.

Bike Week (17th - 25th June) is the UK's annual celebration of cycling. Further information about Bike Week can be found on the internet at:  www.bikeweek.org.uk.
