Glowing Inspection Report as Head Teacher Retires

On the week that Mrs Jean Hunter, the head teacher of Rosehall Primary School, Sutherland, retires, an inspection report has highly commended the school for its work in all areas. Mrs Hunter calls it a day on Friday after nine years at the helm of the school.

The HMIe report found that there was a welcoming atmosphere, high quality teamwork among all staff and very good relationships among pupils staff, parents and the local community.  The confident and responsible pupils had very good attainment in all areas of the curriculum and were given the opportunity to take part in an extensive range of cultural activities.

The report praised the very high quality of provision for pupils’ personal and social development, including the very good pastoral care provided by the staff.  Under the very good leadership of Jean Hunter, the class committed headteacher, the school has a high profile within the local community with extra curricular activities arranged for pupils.  She is also commended for the very high quality of her teaching.

Pupils took part enthusiastically in the school council which has contributed well to suggesting improvements in the school’s attractive environment, which includes an extensive adventure and discovery area.  The school had enjoyed very good support from parents, whom the head teacher has actively involved in the life and work of the school.

The glowing report from the inspectorate made no significant recommendation to improve the school, other than that the authority carry out some minor works in the playground and its environment.  The inspectors commended the authority to continue to build on the very good work being done under the leadership of the headteacher.

Commenting on the report, Ms Hunter said, “I am very pleased that the HMI report is so positive.  I feel that it reflects the enthusiasm of our pupils and the commitment of all staff, including our visiting teachers. Our parents and the local community contribute greatly to school life and I am pleased that this has been recognised as a major strength.”

Council Convener Alison Magee, who represents Rosehall, said: “This is a really excellent inspection which mirrors the widely recognised and valuable role the school plays in the Rosehall community. I would like to offer my congratulations to Mrs Hunter and wish her all the very best in her retirement. The glowing inspection report is a fitting way for her career to come to a close.”

Bruce Robertson, Director of Education Culture and Sport, said: “The HMI report will be a lasting tribute to the sterling work Mrs Hunter has undertaken in Rosehall.  She will be greatly missed by the authority, pupils and parents as a class teacher and as an effective manager of the school.”
