Kingussie High School Retain Great Glen Shinty Title

Kingussie High School retained the Great Glen Schools Shinty Sixes at Blairbeg on Wednesday 25 September 2013.

A total of nine schools took part from across the Highlands and after the league stages The nine teams taking part were; Glenurquhart High School (two teams), Kingussie High School, Lochaber High School, Portree High School, Dingwall Academy, Ardnamurchan High School, Plockton High School and Charleston Academy.

Kingussie, Lochaber, Plockton and Dingwall won through to the semi-finals.
In the first semi Kingussie beat Dingwall 1-0. However the second semi was a much closer affair with Plockton defeating Lochaber on sudden death penalties after the teams were locked at 3-3 after extra time.

In the third place final, Dingwall were 1-0 winners over Lochaber.

The final was a close game with Kingussie scoring twice in the second half to secure their third successive Great Glen Schools Shinty title.
There was some consolation for Plockton when Nathan Whear was awarded player of the tournament.

Event organiser Allan MacLeod said; “It was great to have nine teams at the event and the standard of play on show from all players was very high. On behalf of hosts Glenurquhart High School I would like to thank Glenurquhart Shinty Club for their assistance in holding this event.”
