Cultural and recreational projects awarded Inverness Common Good funds.

Members of The Highland Council’s City of Inverness Area Committee have approved just under £50,000 Inverness Common Good funding for three projects that will benefit the residents of the Burgh area of Inverness.

City Members have agreed to award Inverness Common Good funds to:

  • Hands Up for Trad (£10,000) for the Scots Trad Music Awards which will be held in Inverness Leisure centre in December 2014;
  • The Inverness Tattoo Committee (£9,900) for the Highland Military Tattoo in Fort George in September 2014 in addition to £5,000 already awarded in November 2013; and
  • Inshes Community Association (£30,000) for the second phase of the Inshes Play Park development.

Ward Members for Inverness South, Highland Councillors Carolyn Caddick and Ken Gowans welcomed the funding for the Inshes Play Park development.

Councillor Caddick said: “The important factor about the development at Inshes Play Park is that this is a district park which serves the wider area of Inverness and not just the Inverness South Ward. There are no major parks in this area and this provides a great investment in people’s health and well-being for all the surrounding areas.”

She added: “As Highland Council’s Armed Forces Veterans Champion, Councillor I am also pleased that the Common Good Fund is further supporting the Inverness Organising Committee of the Highland Military Tattoo. Given the strong links within the Tattoo programme with our Highland culture and Armed Forces it is especially fitting that this world class event is coming to the Highland Capital of Scotland.”

Councillor Gowans said: “I welcome this funding for Inshes District Park which currently doesn’t have enough equipment for toddlers and children with disabilities. This support will help enable Inshes Community Association make it more widely accessible across a the much wider Inverness area and further afield to people of all abilities.”
