North Kessock toilets on southbound A9 to re-open for Summer

Transport Scotland is to re-open the toilet block at North Kessock on the southbound A9 for the summer period.

Alastair Somerville, Area Manager, Transport Scotland said: “We are committed to this facility in the long-term and in the short-term and have asked our contractors BEAR Scotland NW to undertake a review of the facility with an aim of having the toilet block re-opened for the summer period.

“This will not include any large scale improvements at this stage but will focus on ensuring the facility is safe for use. To help inform Transport Scotland’s plans for the future development of the site, we will continue to engage with The Highland Council to explore how we can best work together to maximise this opportunity.”

Leader and Depute Leader of The Highland Council, Councillors Drew Hendry and David Alston welcomed the news that the toilets would re-open for summer.

Leader Hendry said: “I am pleased that the positive discussions that we have had with the Transport Minister, Keith Brown MSP, have led to the re-opening of this facility. I am delighted that he has listened to our concerns and has agreed to assist. We intend to have further discussions to see how we might cooperate to improve aspects of this facility into the future.”

Depute Leader Alston added: “I look forward to further discussions with Transport Scotland in order to ensure that the best future for this facility. In the meantime it is reassuring that they will re-open for the summer tourist season.”
