Power fully restored across the region following mass power outages

Emergency Services and partner agencies in the Highlands and Islands have advised that power has been fully restored following mass power outages across the region earlier this evening (16 April 2014).

The power outages happened shortly after 20:30 hours this evening and at its peak affected in the region of 205,000 homes across the Highlands and Islands and into the Moray area as well.

Within two hours the number of those affected was reduced to approximately 95,000, and by 23:00 hours reduced again to 25,000. At 00:30 hours advice has been provided by SSE that all power has been fully restored across the region.

The public are thanked for their patience and cooperation while the situation was resolved.
