Council appoints BSL - English Interpreter

This is to access Council services and meetings.  She is Cheryl Mechan, who will be based in the Council’s Policy Team at Council Headquarters, Inverness.

Service Centre staff will provide a booking service during opening hours (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm, Sat 9am-12pm).  Contact details for the new booking service are:

Members of the public who are hard of hearing, deafened or Deafblind can also access communication support services through the provision of other Language Service Professionals such as Lipspeakers and Electronic Notetakers via the framework of external providers.

Councillor Drew Millar, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Community Safety, Public Engagement and Equalities Committee, said: “I am pleased to welcome these changes.  Communication support is an essential element in ensuring that all of our services are accessible for everyone in our communities.”

Jean Pentland, Community Advocacy Officer, British Deaf Association said: “I am delighted to have represented the views of the Deaf community in Highland during these changes to the way the Council and NHS Highland will book and purchase communication support in the future.”
