Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee to discuss forthcoming consultation on the Local Development Plan

Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee is to meet tomorrow, Tuesday 23 September, 10:30am in the newly refurbished  Wick Town Hall.

The Committee will consider the Caithness and Sutherland Local Development Plan (CaSPlan), which presents suggested outcomes that the plan should deliver in terms of employment, growing communities, connectivity and transport, environment and heritage. It will seek people’s views on the main issues affecting the area and location of future development during a proposed 12 week consultation to begin in October.

The Committee will also hear a presentation from Venture North on the work to develop tourism in the Caithness and north Coast Sutherland area.

Members of the public are invited to attend the meeting.

Councillor Deirdre Mackay, Area Leader Caithness and Sutherland said: Wick Town Hall is of significant importance to the civic history of the town. It is a beautiful building which was the meeting place of the local Council for many years.

“I was last in the Town Hall Chamber when I represented Wick 1999 - 2003 and I am really looking forward to the
Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee meeting in the newly refurbished Chamber. It will be great to enjoy the traditional surroundings but with the benefit of modern technology. The chamber is also now fully DDA compliant.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to my fellow councillors and the officers supporting the
Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee for their forbearance while work was underway on the Chamber.”
