Highland Council weather impact and situation report - 2

A number of roads continue to be affected throughout Inverness and Nairn today (Wednesday, 08 October 2014).

The latest situation as reported by The Highland Council’s Community Services is as follows.

Inverness area:

  • Barn Church Road, Culloden - Balloch whole road is still affected due to significant ponding at each end.
  • Culloden Road Balloch closed at junction with A96 and clearing gullies to try to address the problem.
  • Smithton area; sandbags are being deployed to residents affected this afternoon.
  • Digger teams are cleaning culverts at Birchwood, Inshes; and Murray Place, Smithton.
  • Diriebught Road; road now open and cleaned up with gullies jetted.
  • Balloan Road; Castle Heather at Dows, road now open and cleaned up.
  • Teams are delivering sandbags where required and; operatives at Diriebught depot are filling sandbags.

Nairn:

  • Sandbags were deployed at the riverside at Church Road and the Auldearn Burn was monitored.

Parents and guardians requiring information on school closures should phone the school closures information line 0800 564 2272 to get the latest pre-recorded message from the head teacher of their child's school. A list of school PIN is numbers available on the council’s website to use when dialing.
