Highland Council weather impact and situation report - 3

A number of roads continue to be affected throughout Inverness and Nairn today (Wednesday, 08 October 2014).

The latest (third) situation as reported by The Highland Council’s Community Services is as follows.

Inverness area:

  • Barn Church Road; road now open, some surface water signs are still in place. 
  • Culloden Road; road now open, flooding investigation works continue into this evening.
  • Balloan Road; remains closed towards junction with Culduthel Road.
  • Smithton; issue here has been resolved; culverts cleared and water running away now. Sandbags have been deployed where required.

 Nairn

  • Flood gates are also in place on Harbour Street at the public toilet and Seaman’s Hall and sandbags have been put in place at the footpath on Church Road.
  • Sandbags are available at Balblair Depot for the public (whose properties are at risk) to collect and some members of the public have been collecting these.

Parents and guardians requiring information on school closures should phone the school closures information line 0800 564 2272 to get the latest pre-recorded message from the head teacher of their child's school. A list of school PIN is numbers available on the council’s website to use when dialing.
