The Highland Council’s Gaelic Team organised a very successful Gaelic Tutor Training Event in Eden Court last weekend.  The event provided new training for ten Gaelic Adult Learning Tutors from both the Skye and Inverness areas.

The Gaelic Tutor Training Weekend included a series of workshops on delivering Adult Learning Community Based Classes, Group Work Skills, Drama for Adult Gaelic Learning and Methods of Assessment.  The Course was run with financial support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig.

Councillor Hamish Fraser, Chair of The Highland Council’s Gaelic Implementation Group said: “The Training Event provided an excellent opportunity for current Tutors to enhance and develop their teaching skills.  Due to an increased demand for Adult Learning Community based classes, it is vital that the Council attracts new Adult Learning Tutors who are able to support us to deliver Gaelic classes in local communities across the Highlands.”

Eilidh Maclean who is new to tutoring said: “The Tutor Trainers provided me with an invaluable insight and experience into the tutoring of Gaelic to Adult Learners.  We also gained specialist advice on the practical delivery of language learning and methods of assessment, and finally, it created networking opportunities for both experienced tutors and new entrants to tutoring.”
