Motorists advised of traffic restrictions for Etape Loch Ness

The Highland Council and partners are advising motorists of temporary road closures and speed restrictions which will be in place this weekend 25 - 26 April during the Etape Loch Ness cycling event.

The restrictions and prohibitions which are being put in place are for participants safety and to allow the Etape to take place on public roads. Permission for the traffic order been authorised by Scottish Ministers (trunk roads) and The Highland Council (local authority roads).

Access for emergency services vehicles will be maintained at all times and for vehicles employed to ensure the safety of the Event participants.

The following roads will be closed to all other vehicles at the times and dates stated:

  • Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with Bught Road, Inverness, and its junction with the C1118 General Booth Road, from 05:40 to 07:15 on Sunday 26 April 2015.
  • Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with the C1118 General Booth Road, Inverness, and its junction with the A831 Drumnadrochit – Cannich – Beauly Toll Road, from 05:40 to 08:05 on Sunday 26 April 2015.
  • Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with the A831 Drumnadrochit – Cannich – Beauly Toll Road and its junction with the private road leading to Urquhart Castle, from 06:40 to 08:15 on Sunday 26 April 2015.
  • Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with the private road leading to Urquhart Castle and its junction with the U1766 Dalcataig Road, Invermoriston, from 06:20 to 09:05 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

Temporary speed limits will also apply as follows:

  • 30 miles per hour on the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road between its junction with the B852 Dalcrag Bridge – Foyers – Inverfarigaig – Dores Road and Holm Roundabout, from 07:45 to 12:25 on Sunday 26 April 2015.
  • 20 miles per hour on the  B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road between Holm Roundabout and its junction with the B861 Inverness – Leys – Inverarnie Road (Ness Bridge Junction), from 08:45 to 12:40 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

The Multi-Agency Task Response Team dealing with recent fire on Academy Street, Inverness comprising Highland Council, Police, Fire, Inverness BID, contractor and partners have considered the impact of the Etape cycle race on their city centre traffic management plan for Academy Street.

The group decided that the Etape race could proceed as planned as it considered that the various traffic management arrangements can work alongside each other, without any significant knock on effects.
