Highland Council Leader

Council Leader Drew Hendry has confirmed his intention to step down from his role as Leader from Monday 18 May.

Chief Executive Steve Barron said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Drew for his commitment and congratulate him on his achievements as Leader over the past 3 years, and to wish him all the very best in his new role as MP representing his Highland constituents at Westminster.

He continued: “It will fall to The Highland Council to elect a new Leader at the June Council meeting. In the meantime, Depute Leader David Alston will be Acting Leader from Monday 18 May until 25 June.”
