Help for bilingual families with younger children at school

Bilingual parents or carers of young children (from nursery to primary 3 age) are being invited to two information events at Central Primary School aimed at helping their child or children at school.

The first information event is on Friday 29 May from 9.30am to 11.30am; followed by another event on Wednesday 3rd June from 1pm till 3pm. Both events will be held at Central Primary School, Kenneth Street in Inverness and all bilingual families are welcome to attend. Teas and coffees will be provided.

The events have been organised by The Highland Council’s Care and Learning Service (English as an additional Language), in conjunction with High Life Highland Libraries, the Community Schools, Adult Literacies and Integrated Children’s Services. Information leaflets have been issued in English and Polish about the event.

Information will be available at the events on:

  • Learning to read in Scottish Primary Schools.
  • Helping your child to become bilingual.
  • Community schools (Polska Szkoła Sobotnia, SHIMCA and Inverness Masjid).
  • English classes and qualifications.
  • Helping at home.
  • Highland Libraries Bookbug reading initiative for younger children.
