Leader of Highland Council to attend stakeholders meeting over future of Spey Valley Smokehouse

Leader of The Highland Council Margaret Davidson is attending the stakeholder group meeting in Peterhead today which will focus on the impact of fish processing job losses in Fraserburgh and Grantown.

She said: “I welcome the opportunity to be involved in the stakeholder meeting which will seek to clarify Young’s plans for the Spey Valley Smokehouse and any opportunities to preserve jobs in the area. There are have already been significant job losses in the Grantown area with two other major employers closing down recently and the commutative impact on the area needs to be emphasised.”

She added: “The Council can also provide support to the staff involved with money advice, benefits, and new-start business advice.”
