Highland tourism seminar

People working in the tourism industry are being invited to attend the 5th annual tourism seminar held by The Highland Council on Wednesday 6th December in the Council’s Chambers at Glenurquhart Road in Inverness.

Organised, jointly this year with VisitScotland, the seminar will be chaired by Councillor Duncan Allan, the Council’s tourism spokesman.

The seminar programme will cover a number of current tourism topics such as Destination Management and Developing local tourism websites, with speakers including Alistair Dobson from Destination Arran and Chris Elvery of Call2Action.

Councillor Allan said: “There is a tinge of anxiety that with VisitScotland being so busily engaged in attracting visitors to Scotland, local marketing has been left in our hands. Co-operation is the theme of our seminar and we would early like to hear industry views to ensure the money the Highland Council invests in tourism is invested in the right place.”

The event has been combined with the first open meeting of all the Highland Area Tourism Forums which will take places following the networking lunch and the agenda will cover VisitScotland’s Marketing Strategy and VisitScotland.com.

VisitScotland Highland Area Director, Scott Armstrong said: “I’m delighted that following our restructure we are now holding open meetings for our Local Area Forums, it is essential that VisitScotland has a means of getting feedback on tourism priorities.  It is only through proper dialogue with our industry partners that we can strive towards our shared goal of increasing tourism revenue in Scotland by 50% by 2015.”

Spaces for the event are limited and can be reserved on the Highland Council’s website or by contacting Colin Simpson on 01997 423032
