Nominations sought for by-election

A by-election to elect a councillor to serve the Aird and Loch Ness (Ward 13) of The Highland Council will be held on Thursday 8 October 2015.

One councillor will be elected following the resignation of Councillor Drew Hendry after he was elected as an MP for the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey Constituency at the recent UK Parliamentary General Election.

Nominations packs for prospective candidates will be available from the Council’s website – http://www.highland.gov.uk/ from 9am tomorrow (Thursday 20 August).

Nominations will close at 4.00pm on Monday, 7 September 2015 and unless the by-election is uncontested, voting will take place on Thursday, 8 October 2015. The count will take place the following day in the Phipps Hall, Beauly at 10.00am.

The Returning Officer is inviting any prospective candidates and their agents to an awareness session on Monday (24 August) to go over the election process. Topics covered will include the nomination procedure, the election timetable, the issuing of Poll Cards and Postal Ballot packs and Candidate’s spending limits. This session will take place in The Highland Council Offices on Glenurquhart Road in Inverness at 6pm.
