Contract to replace cremators at Inverness Crematorium awarded

The Highland Council has awarded a contract to ATI incinerators Muller for the replacement of incinerators at the region’s crematorium at Kilvean, Inverness.

The £500,000 contract to replace the crematorium’s two existing cremators starts on 24 September 2015 and is due for completion by the end of January 2016.

The Council does not anticipate that there will be any impact on business as arrangements are being made to ensure that there will be one cremator operational at all times during the length of the contract.

The Council is writing to all Funeral Directors in the area to advise them of the works.

Councillor Allan Henderson, Chair of Highland Council’s Community Services Committee said: “These works to install new cremators are absolutely necessary as the existing facilities are at risk of failure and are very inefficient. I am assured that at all times there will be one cremator working during the works so that Highland is not without a cremation facility.

“I appreciate that losing a loved one is one of the most stressful times of life, however the Council is doing everything in its power to ensure that operations at the Inverness Crematorium continue as smoothly as possible.”
