Highland Council to consult on revised Masterplan for Nairn South

Community Councils, landowners, developers and the wider public will have the opportunity to have their say on the preparation of a revised Masterplan for Nairn South area which has been earmarked in the Inner Moray Firth Local Development Plan for 520 new homes, business and community use.

The Highland Council is to consult with interested parties and individuals between now and the end of 2015. A community consultation event will be held as soon as possible to help inform the process – details of the event will be publicised as soon as they are available.

Members of the Council’s Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee were updated on the requirement of the Council to prepare the Masterplan to inform the determination of future planning applications.

At the Area Committee Members endorsed the proposals for community enagagement alongside the preparation of a Transport Appraisal to inform the Nairn South Masterplan.

The Transport Appraisal by the Council will include an assessment of infrastructure required for pedestrian, cyclist and vehicular movements to support future needs within the Nairn South area.

Members also agreed that a delivery strategy for development sites in Nairn should be prepared in support of the Inner Moray Firth Local Development Plan (IMFLDP). The delivery strategy will look at current housing demand and infrastructure requirements.

Sites already identified in the IMFLDP include the former Showfield; South Kingsteps; Achareidh; Sandown; Lochloy; Delnies; the town centre; Nairn South; Grigorhill; Balmakeith and south of Balmakeith; and the sawmill expansion.

Local Members and local community groups will be consulted by Planning Officials on the delivery strategy.

Members were informed that following community consultation a revised Nairn South Masterplan and delivery strategy for development sites in Nairn within the IMFLDP would be brought back to the next appropriate Council committee for Members’ consideration.
