Provost welcomes announcement of new Inverness Justice Centre

Provost of Inverness, Councillor Helen Carmichael, welcomed the announcement yesterday that Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service will be moving out of Inverness Castle to a new Inverness Justice Centre in the city, within the next three years.

Provost Carmichael said: “This is excellent news for Inverness on a number of counts. This mean we will now have a clear timescale for taking forward exciting plans to make Inverness Castle a focal attraction for visitors to the Highlands.

“An exhibition and public consultation was recently launched by Highlife Highland at the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. This sets out options and invites comments on the best future use for the Castle.

“In the meantime, the North Tower will be opened as a fantastic viewpoint during 2016.”

She went on to say: “The building of a new Justice Centre is also great news for the economy of the city as it will bring construction jobs and boost employment over the next three years.”
