Highland Council Responds to UHI Announcement

The Highland Council’s Chairman of Education, Culture and Sport, Councillor Andy Anderson said:

"The Highland Council will continue to support the goal for University Title being pursued by UHI MI and its partners, despite the disappointing news that today brings.

“We see a University in the Highlands as being crucial to our aim of creating sustainable, vibrant and prosperous Highland communities.

“It is pleasing to note that the QAA Board were supportive of the quality of UHI programmes.  However, the Council recognises that the unique federal system in UHI can pose some difficulties for Higher Education administrators.  It is essential that the additional year that will be taken to attain University Title must address the challenge of bringing 13 Colleges together into one University.  To that end, the Council will give as much support as possible to Bob Cormack and his Board in the quest for University Title."
