Second round of Community Council Nominations

Following the second call for candidates wishing to serve on Highland Community Councils to come forward - a total of 19 Councils attracted sufficient interest to form a new Council. 

The uncontested community councils in the second round are:

  • Ardgay Community Council
  • Arisaig & District Community Council
  • Balintore and Hilton Community Council
  • Ballifeary Community Council
  • Bower Community Council
  • Coigach Community Council
  • Conon Bridge Community Council
  • Dulnain Bridge Community Council
  • Inver Community Council
  • Kiltarlity Community Council
  • Kinlochleven Community Council
  • Kyle Community Council
  • Lochardil and Drummond Community Council
  • Morvern Community Council
  • Muirtown Community Council
  • Raasay Community Council
  • Sinclairs Bay Community Council
  • Strathpeffer Comunity Council
  • West Ardnamurchan Community Council

Grantown and Spey and Vicinity Community Council drew more nominations than their maximum membership, paving the way for an election to take place on 3 March 2016.

The maximum membership of each of the Highland Community Councils is determined by the population it serves and varies from 7 to 13 members.

Ballot papers will be posted out on Wednesday, 17 February.  Young people aged 16 and 17 will be able to take part providing they have completed a registration form.

Eight Community Councils will not be established as they failed to attract half the maximum membership. The next opportunity for nominations to be made to those Community Council’s will be confirmed at a later date.

  • Contin Community Council
  • Glendale Community Council
  • Holm Community Council
  • Laggan Community Council
  • Lochbroom Community Council
  • Mallaig Community Council
  • Stromeferry and Achmore Community Council
