Inverness Townscape Heritage Project is open on Academy Street

The Inverness Townscape Heritage (TH) project team are delighted to have secured office space on Academy Street for the five year delivery phase of the project. The TH project recently moved into 62 Academy Street, and are currently in the process of recruiting a full time Project Assistant post to complete the team.

In September the Inverness Townscape Heritage Project secured Heritage Lottery Funding along with Highland Council and Historic Environment Scotland money, bringing together a funding pot of just over £3.1 million to invest in the historic built environment of Academy Street.

Grant application packs are ready and have already been issued to many of the priority projects on Academy Street. With the first round of funding applications scheduled to close in February, interest in the grant fund has been high from the outset.

Cllr Richard Laird, Chair of Inverness TH Project Partnership commented: “The focus in the initial stages of the TH Project have very much been with the highest priority buildings on Academy Street and the team are continuing to work closely with these potential projects to help them through the application process.

“Key opportunities such as the Inverness Station redevelopment are also being progressed at the moment. The Inverness TH Project has just 3 years to commit the grant fund with a further 2 years to draw down all the funding.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for owners of historic properties on Academy Street to apply for assistance to help with the cost of reinstating or enhancing heritage detail.  I would encourage anyone interested to contact the project team to discuss a potential application.

“We very much look forward to making announcements of first grant awards in the near future.”
