‘Wildcards’ shown for Highland Schools in Rock Challenge.

Wildcards
Millburn, Dingwall and Thurso schools

Three Highland Schools are celebrating as they have been given “wildcards” to perform at the UK Rock Challenge (Scotland) finals. Dingwall and Millburn Academies and Thurso High School are the three lucky wildcard recipients.

Bill Alexander, Highland Council’s Director of Care and Learning explained: “The ‘Be Your Best Foundation’ that organises Rock Challenge contacted us with great news. The judges have chosen three Highlands schools to receive "wild cards" to the final in Dundee. This means that a total of 5 out of the 10 finalists this year will be Highlands schools: Alness, Dingwall, Invergordon, Thurso, Millburn.

“Congratulations to Dingwall, Thurso and Millburn for getting three wild card places – that is unprecedented, and evidences the quality of the performances of all Highland schools once again this year.”

Councillor Drew Millar, Chair of The Highland Council’s Education, Children and Adult Services Committee said: “This is excellent news. The performances I saw certainly deserved recognition and to have half of the ten final places represented by Highland schools is just fantastic. A huge round of applause to everyone concerned in this success and I wish them the best of luck in the finals.”

The Rock Challenge Scottish Final will take place in the Caird Hall, Dundee on Friday 17 June 2016. For further information visit: http://www.rockchallenge.co.uk.
