Culloden and Ardersier by-election timetable announced

The timetable for the election for the return of a councillor for the Culloden and Ardersier ward of The Highland Council has been announced today (Thursday 18 August) 

The by-election is being held following the sad death of Councillor John Ford. He was one of four Councillors representing Ward 18 which has an electorate of 9,137. The other Ward members are Councillors Roddy Balfour (Independent), Glynis Sinclair (SNP) and Kate Stephen (Scottish Liberal Democrat)

Candidates have until 4pm on Monday 5 September to submit their nomination papers.  If the seat is contested, a by-election will take place on Thursday 6 October. Nomination forms are now available from the Depute Returning Officer, Chief Executive’s Office, The Highland Council,  Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness IV3 5NX  or from  the Council’s website at http://www.highland.gov.uk/yourcouncil/elections/

Anyone eligible to vote can vote in person on the day or apply for either a postal vote or to vote by proxy. The latest time to apply for a postal vote is 5.00pm on Wednesday 21 September and the deadline for anyone wishing to apply to vote by proxy is Wednesday 28 September.  Advice on postal and proxy voting is available by contacting the Electoral Registration Office on 0800 393783.

If there is a contest, voting will take place on 6 October with the count taking place within the ward on Friday 7 October.

The current political representation of the Council is: Highland Alliance (6); Independent (32); Labour (7); Liberal Democrat (12); Scottish National Party (18); Non-aligned (4).
